Historically known as the “breadbasket of Europe”, Ukraine is set to become the “foodbasket” of the world. With 33% of the world’s black soil (chornozem) concentrated in Ukraine, a favourable climate and proximity to key markets, Ukraine is becoming an agriculture export powerhouse.
Agriculture has traditionally been the backbone of the Ukrainian economy: 70% of territory is covered by agricultural sector; agriculture contributes 18% to the country’s GDP; 420k ha of certified organic land.
Ukraine is an important producer and exporter: #1 sunflower oil exporter, #2 grain exporter and # corn exporter globally; #1 honey producer in Europe and #3 globally; #3 exporter of poultry in Europe and #7 globally. The largest in Europe dairy farm, keeping 4,500 dairy cows is located in Ukraine.
